In 1989 I began the process of creating and establishing my greatest passion in life, Working with Dogs, in all aspects. I started my journey after owning several breeds of dogs over the years since my teen years in the 1970s. To date I have owned, Irish Setters,German Shepherds, Newfoundlands, Coon Hounds, Cocker Spaniels, Doberman Pinschers, American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, and Boxers.
In 1989, I purchased my first Rottweiler and began the process of finding the bloodlines that suited my needs. I personally don't believe there is the "Ultimate Rottweiler " pedigree, or one line of dogs that is better than another line of dogs. Each pedigree was created (hopefully) by the breeders with intent of improving the quality of the Rottweiler in conformation, temperament, health, and other desirable traits. Over the years it was a series of hits and misses until I purchased my first truly great Rottweiler, Multi V Rated. Canadian Champion Briere Eden, TD, AD, CGC, RTD, from the then owner Cliff Byrnes . Briere Eden was breed and produced by one of Canada's top Rottweiler Breeders, Johanne Briere.
Fast forward to the present. Today we own several dogs under different prefixes. Jotunheim Kennels is registered to myself, and only myself, Don French. No one else in Canada may use the prefix Jotunheims for any breed of dog. We also have two Belgian Shepherds, co-owned with other breeders in Ontario and New Brunswick. The prefix I created for my Belgians is called Belgiador, and it is my hope that one day I can breed a successful litter of Belgian Shepherds, Tervurens.
As of September 2009 I now am under contract with Green Leaf Pest Control and The Bed Bug Tracker Company working and handling a Scent Detection Dog
